4 Outdoor Games You Can Try on Your Next Team Building Activity

Although summer is just around the corner, for a lot of hardworking workers of the nation it does not mean you get to relax just yet. To combat summer blues for employees, it is a good idea to get the staff to leave the office for a few days and indulge in some team-building activities.

The summer time is the perfect season to get everyone moving and going so it is a great time for team-building activities. At the same time, the summer season is the best time to move around outdoors. The great weather and the atmosphere of activity is an enticing invite to go outside.

With that said, for your company’s next outing, it is good to incorporate outdoor games into team-building activities. If you don’t have any ideas about any outdoor games, you can do for your team-building activity then look no further.

Below are four outdoor games that are perfect for your next team-building activities. Try them out for your next outing and see for yourself!

1. Blind Drawing

Blind Drawing is a great activity that is both fun and exciting while also challenging. This activity involves 2 people to sit back-to-back from one another. One person is given the task of drawing what the other player is telling them to draw.

The fun catch of the game is that the other person is not allowed to tell the other player what the object is. Instead, they have to describe the object to the person tasked with drawing.  The challenge isn’t only the fact that they can’t say what the object is. The biggest challenge is that there are certain keywords that are listed that they are not allowed to say when describing the object.

With this game, team members can improve their communication skills and coordination. Aside from that, they improve their listening skills when they’re listening for how one describes an object. At the same time, analytical skills are also improved because one has to try and puzzle the descriptions together to figure out what the object is.

It is fun to do and doesn’t require much equipment to setup. When competing against teams for most accurate drawings, you can add a competitive spin on the game.

2. Tug-Of-War Level Up

Tug-of-War is a classic outdoor game for any team-building activity. Since it is a classic, it means it has been done time and time again at every company outing so it is a good idea to add some twists to the game.

The setup only requires an appropriate rope that is capable of letting three to four teams to participate. To do this you can either tie the knots themselves, or you can simply buy four-way Tug-of-War ropes available in online stores.

Whatever you choose as a setup, you will eventually end up with four ropes for four different teams to pull on. Tie bandanas or ribbons of different colors to the different ends of the rope so that it is easier for the assigned referee to identify the teams.

With this improvement on the classic Tug-of-War game, you will find interesting plans of action from these different teams. Will some teams choose to team up with each other to overthrow other teams or will they keep to themselves?

This game can develop coordination between each member. Aside from that, it is a heavy exercise both for muscular and grip strength.

3. Personality Bingo

Team-building activities in company outings are the best time for each department and teams to get to know one another. It is important that bonds are made when it comes to coworkers as these are the people they are spending a majority of their days with. This is why Personality Bingo is a great game.

All you need to play Personality Bingo is a 5×5 grid, like a Bingo card, filled with different but specific characteristics. The key here is to get the person applicable to whichever characteristic to sign the characteristic that is applied to them. First one to complete the entire grid with signatures wins!

This is a great way to start conversations between members of a team. The winner’s card and the people who signed on it will then get the chance to talk about the characteristics that applied to them in more in-depth detail for the rest of the room to hear about.

4. Capture It

With all the running around and work and activities in the company outing, it can be hard to take the time to appreciate the surroundings and take some personal photos for memories and keepsakes. This next activity can address both this problem while still being a team-building activity.

Capture It is a team-building activity that requires a team of people to use the cameras on their phones to take photos in interesting situations or with certain objects or people. Depending on the assigned people or place or situation, designate a certain number of points. The harder the task, the higher the points.

Set a timer for everyone to finish accomplishing the task. Team with the most points win! It’s a great exercise that helps stretch the prioritization muscles of everyone while at the same time, it teaches people how to delegate their tasks.

Team-building activities should be a balance between environment, fun, and learnings. With these four outdoor games at your disposal, your next team-building session is sure to be a fun outdoor adventure for everyone involved that answers all of these elements with ease.
