8 Genius Outdoor Camping Hacks You Need to Try

Camping is surely not included on the list of the team-building activities if comfort is what’s being desired for.

But wait until you discover these eight camping hacks which would surely make you think twice. Never tried camping before? Read on and be a pro in a jiffy.

1. Light it up with style

Sometimes, it is hard to catch some sleep in an unfamiliar place. The easiest way to fix that is to add ambient lighting. But bringing in a lamp on a camping trip is absolutely not a good idea for two reasons, it will definitely add up to the load and it is just not practical at all. However, sticking up a head light to a transparent water gallon could easily do the trick.

2. Pack light, pack in singles

This is one of the most widely used hacks in the world, whether one is going on a camping trip or backpack traveling. Packing light means packing in singles. Get at least 3 – 4 pieces of drinking straws, cut it into 3 parts depending on how much you would want to put in it. Lock one end by slightly burning it, then fill it with either bathroom essentials such as shampoo, toothpaste, conditioner, etc… or medications such as antibiotic ointments. Then lock the other end again to keep it from spilling. This trick would certainly keep your rucksacks safe from any spills and spaces as well as for other items.

3. First-aid first

Staying outside for a day or two with only a tent as shelter could leave a camper be susceptible to circumstances such as wood splinters on fingers or toes or any other wound-causing situations. Thus, first-aid first. To ensure that the first-aid kit is readily available when needed and nothing gets left behind, keeping all of them in a single container is one of the tips one should try. Take an old prescription bottle or a small pouch and fill it in with band-aids, few pieces of facial cotton (so it’s flattened, unlike the cotton balls), a small portion of hydrogen peroxide to treat open wounds and other items which you feel should be included in your very own first-aid kit.

4. Do scavenger-hunting

What makes camping adventurous is that it allows the camper to reconnect with nature. And the best past-time which everyone would absolutely enjoy doing is scavenger-hunting. Make sure to use a brown bag for its dual purpose, the list can be written down on it and at the same time would serve as storage for the items found. Not only does this activity serves as an entertainment for everyone, it could also be an interesting way to introduce new ways of learning and discovering things especially to the kids.

5. Foam floor tiles as an added cushion

Foam floor tiles are used to keep babies safe, says no one. Yes, foam floor tiles could serve as an added cushion underneath when going on a camping trip to ensure comfort is not neglected.

6. Forget about bringing a block of soap, instead pack soap shaves

Cleanliness should not be disregarded especially when going on an outdoor camping trip for at least a day or two. Bringing in a block of soap though could take so much space for sure. Best thing to do is get a vegetable peeler and shave some soap leaves from a bar of soap. Since the soap shaves are for one-time-use only, nothing gets wasted. You wouldn’t even have to think about packing a used soap bar back home.

7. Hook it up

Make use of nature’s best while you can. In need of additional storage for pots and pans? That’s easy, strap a belt onto a tree, add a few hooks to it and there you go. Problem solved.

8. DIY fire-starters

Starting up a fire is one of the most difficult tasks to do, yet it is also one of the most important skills one should learn before going on a camping trip. Instead of doing the old-fashioned way of rubbing two rocks against each other, why not empty a cardboard egg tray at home, then fill it in with match light charcoal. Sounds easy and simple.
