9 Fun Ways Kids Can Stay Active During the Rainy Season

Are you looking for fun ways to keep your kids active during the rainy season? Sometimes, it’s hard coming up with fresh ideas to keep the little ones busy.

That’s why, in this post, we’ll talk about the nine fun ways kids can stay active during the rainy days.

1. Indoor Treasure Hunting

Since you’re mostly staying indoors this rainy season, why not plan an indoor treasure hunt that the kids will surely love?

Here are some ideas about how you can play this game:

  • Scavenger Hunt: Plan a scavenger hunt by hiding nine small prizes and one big prize in various locations in your house. Just like in a typical scavenger hunt, one clue will lead to another. Usually, the final clue’s location is where the big prize is.
  • Treasure Hunt: Kids can also claim one big prize in the end, instead of claiming a series of small prizes. Usually, each clue per location leads to the next, until they can find the “treasure.”

2. Pretend Games for Imagination Ignition

When you allow your kids to pretend to be pirates or superheroes, you’re engaging them. What’s going on behind their imaginations are usually complicated, but this kind of games are excellent for your child’s development.

Why? Because you’re encouraging your kids to be creative. After all, a kid’s imagination is a wondrous thing to behold. That’s why, you need to give them the right space, time, and encouragement, and their imaginations can take them anywhere and everywhere! They’ll make up stories and adventures that will build worlds.

Here are some fun ideas:

  • Indoor Olympics: Get some exercise by incorporating imaginary play by holding an indoor Olympics! To create lanes, line up toy cars or hold other races that times how fast an “athlete” can wear all costumes in the clothes box.
  • Fun Fortress: Kids love creating their own fort even it’s just blankets, sheets, and a couple of chairs. From there, they can pretend to be warriors, guarding their castle from invaders, or hiding from spies.

3. Sing or Dare

Sing or Dare is a fun activity that lets you review songs that your kids are learning. Usually, Sing Cards ask the participant fun ways to sing the song. Meanwhile, the Dare Card will ask them to do funny antics or answer a difficult question.

4. Disco in the House

Why not throw a dance or musical party in the house? The music will not only keep the kids physically active, but it will also keep them busy as well.

Here are some fun activities that you can try:

  • The Freeze Dance: Spice this game up just a little bit by telling the kids to freeze at a particular shape every time the music stops.
  • Limbo: This game doesn’t have a winner or loser. After all, kids like to challenge themselves by going lower and lower the limbo stick.

5. Indoor Camping Anyone?

Couldn’t camp outdoors? Well, you can try out indoor camping as an alternative.

The cool thing about indoor camping is that you can make the most out of your board games, and there are no bugs! Have some old-school fun as you teach your kids how to play Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders, and more!

6. Story Tell Tales

Because most kids tend to develop their imaginations even from a very young age, activities like storytelling allow them to think more creatively and hone their language skills.

While Storytelling has a lot of benefits, sometimes getting your kids to listen to you might become challenging. Some of them could easily get bored and prefer their toys instead. So, each time you’re reading them a story, don’t just limit yourself with a book.

7. Cooking and Baking Your Way

If you want your kids to develop a love for cooking, you’d be surprised that there are a lot of super simple recipes that you can try with your kids!

Aside from enjoying those yummy treats, they’ll also learn valuable life skills (such as practicing their math and reading prowess) along the way.

8. The Mystery in The Touch and Feel Box

You’d be surprised that sensory boxes are pretty straightforward to make. They aren’t costly either. Not to mention, it does an excellent job in entertaining kids as they’re exploring the world around them with their senses.

Getting to feel different objects is a great method for self-discovery among children, as they get to be exposed to different objects and textures. They’re developing their senses while having a greater understanding of the world at the same time.

9. Head Outdoors

Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean that you need to be stuck indoors all the time. There are times that you still have to head outside the house.

So, get ready to don your rain gear and head outside for some fun puddle jumping or outdoor obstacle course. Just make sure that everyone returns to a warm shower and a cup of hot chocolate after!

The rainy season is officially here, but don’t let it stop you from keeping your kids active! There is still plenty of fun, creative ways to help you pass the time and create lasting memories with your kids.
